3 Dumb Mistakes to Avoid in the Writing Module of PTE

When it comes to PTE Academic exam (Pearson Test of English), where the Speaking, Listening, as well as Reading modules seem to be a cinch for people, the writing module has always received an aversion. And such reaction doesn’t come as too big surprise since this section calls for the presence of several skills at the same time - such as brainstorming different ideas, elaborating those ideas in a precise manner, and knowing spelling, grammar, plurals, and so on.

But howsoever difficult it may seem, it holds great importance. So let’s have a look at some of the silliest mistakes that students make in the PTE writing module here.

➤ Write Essay: It requires you to write an argumentative essay of 200-300 words within 20 minutes in response to a prompt. Your written essay is basically judged on your ability of organising and presenting ideas along with the other details to support your argument.

The mistake people make in this section, doesn’t come while writing the exam - but way before it. It’s the lack of practice that can prove fatal in this exam. You cannot use up your time thinking too much. You have to practise a lot of different essays to get it done right as well as on time, in the exam.

➤ Summarise Written Text: This portion requires you to write a summary of a passage given to you within 10 minutes. It must be written in one sentence and should have no more than 75 words. Your summary will be judged on the basis of your quality and how precisely you present the vital points of the passage.
The mistake that students make here, is similar to the one they make in an essay. Not enough practice can again have you put this section in jeopardy. More than the essay, it’s this section that requires you to think really fast, and that can only be acquired through practising a lot.

➤ Spellings, Grammar, and Punctuation: A sentence loses its meaning if it doesn’t include the proper punctuation marks. You have to be very careful with your commas, semicolons, colons, hyphens, full-stops, and such. The confusion over where to insert your punctuations is an extremely common problem, and you would need to get rid of it before your exam.

The other common mistakes are those related to grammar. The do-does, has-have, a-an-the, and all such dilemmas are seen so frequently in PTE exam answers, that students should prepare for this whole module, starting with these concepts only. last, but not the least, please avoid making spelling mistakes.
Know and understand words carefully while you prepare for this exam, and make sure you practise enough to not spell the words wrong in there.

Let’s face it; it’s not easy being a non-native speaker to write concise and impressive essay unless one has followed an aggressive practise schedule, and PTE writing module is no exception to this rule.

And no one understands the significance of such practice, more than PTE Tutorials. So, join us today, and with our brilliant practice tests at a reasonable PTE course fees, pave a sure path to a great PTE score for yourself!

Planning to Study in Australia? Here’s How you can Manage Your Study Costs

A few years back, HSBC came out with a survey which pointed towards Australia being one of the most expensive countries to study overseas. And though the exact numbers must have changed through the years, yet Australia holds the position amongst the most costly study destinations even today. But still this country also remains with one of the highest concentrations of International students in the world!

But as we said, Study and Living Costs are really high here. So, let’s dig a little deeper into that. Australian universities have a unique way of calculating their tuition fee. Instead of going the usual way, that is calculating it per year, they have it done per unit. And every unit is a part of a fee band. Because most students study a combination of units from different bands, the fee happens to be different for everyone. The average tuition fee for Bachelor’s degree, this way, comes to range between 15,000 and 33,000 AUD/year, and that of Master’s and PhD degree, between 14,000 – 37,000 AUD per year. This makes the average tuition fee in an Australian University, as 33,400 AUD. But you will still have some of the top universities regulating and publishing their fee estimates on a regular basis, for every program.

Then you have the Student Services and Amenities fee which is charged by not all, but most universities. This is a cost that covers the amenities and services which are of a non-academic nature. When it comes to living there, Sydney comes as the most expensive city where costs can go as up as 2500 AUD/month. The average cost of living in the country then ranges between 1800 and 2500 AUD a month. Then there are food and transportation costs to consider too, in addition to books and other reading supplies that you’d have to spend on.

The costs are a bit high; but finding a way to manage these costs is important. There are a lot of scholarships that you will come across that can help you do just that. There are Endeavour Postgraduate Awards, Australia Awards, APEC Women in Research Fellowship Program, amongst many which offer financial aid to International students in Australia.

Also, Australian Student Visas allow International students to work up to 40 hours per fortnight, per semester, and unrestricted hours during semester breaks. There are many industries in Australia looking for part-time workers including retail, hospitality, tourism, agriculture, finance, manufacturing, etc.
